The Oyo state government has declared that it has rewarded the Saki township road to a new contractor from the previous handler in order to facilitate quick completion at a shortest possible time.
Addressing governor’s office correspondents briefly after its executive council meeting on Tuesday, the Honourable commissioner for Energy, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, explained that the road under the new contractor is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Barr Olaleye, said that the contract which was initially issued out by the last administration at the cost of N8billion (eight billion naira) has now been re-awarded by the Seyi Makinde led government at the cost of N4.8billion (four billion seven hundred and ninety six million naira).
He added that despite paying a little above N3billion (three billion naira) by the last Ajimobi led government, evaluation and assessment by the present government shows that level of execution still remains about one billion naira which necessitated termination and re-awarding of the saki township road project to a new contractor.
The Saki township project which is to be funded solely by the contractor is based on the state government’s arrangement of Alternative Funding Approach (AFA) which implies that the contractor executes the project one hundred percent and the state government pays back total cost spread over a period of twenty eight months.
The state government however assured that the government will ensure monitoring and strict compliance with terms of the contract with the aim of delivery at the agreed time.
