Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has visited the ongoing construction projects at Akesan Market in Oyo to ascertain level of completion and quality of project delivery and has expressed his confidence that both phase one and two of the ongoing market construction will be attain 100 percent completion. Makinde who visited the market on Thursday 21st January, 2021 on an inspection visit expressed satisfaction explained that the developer handling the project has given him his word that the project will be completed within the first half of 2021.
“Today I have given a go ahead for phase two to start in earnest. The developer mentioned that we can attain completion for everything both in phase one and phase two within another three, three and half months.
“So, we have given the go ahead and we are confident that by our second year in office this place will be fully functional, commissioned and with market men and women carrying out their activities here.” Makinde said.
When asked about his views on compliance with quality and standard, governor Makinde maintained that the quality is good.
“The quality is also good. It is validating that there is indeed a new approach to public project in Oyo state, you can see the quality and our people also are quite excited and happy and I am also happy that we have the opportunity to at least add to the joy of the people.
Speaking earlier, the Caretaker chairman of Oyo East local government, Saheed Arowosaye, while welcoming the governor to the inspection noted that the two market buildings consist of 556 locked up shops and a police post for protection of lives and properties of shop owners and its environs.
He added that the new market now housed an administrative building, a clinic, and a twelve units toilets for convenience of market users and operators. Other facilities are a perimeter fencing and a connecting road network for ease of human and vehicular traffic.
