The immediate past Caretaker Chairman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship candidate in Oluyole Local Government, Honorable Olaide Settle on Friday led all 10 Councilorship candidates in the local government on a ‘thank you’ visit to the Ibadan residence of Engr Akeem Olatunji, sunrisebulletin.com reports.
Settle alongside his PDP counselorship flagbearers arrived Olatunji’s residence on Friday 2nd of April, at about 4pm as part of what was described as ‘part of efforts to step up party preparation’ towards the forthcoming local government election.
Speaking on behalf of his other colleagues, Settle commended the PDP Spokesman in Oyo state for his resilience and open arms style of politics, describing Olatunji as ‘a man gifted with deep native intelligence, a man with deep understanding of local politics and grassroots mobilizer, as well as one of great political assets’ of Oluyole Local Government.
“We consider this visit very important and imperative reason being that, having emerged as the party flagbearer, the first meeting I held with all successful candidates at the ward level in Oluyole Local Government, we resolved to pay courtesy visit to all our leaders, including political, political appointees, and elected.
“Engr Akeem Olatunji is one of our great pride as far as Oluyole Local Government is concerned, the role he played in our emergence is unquantifiable that’s why we are here to show appreciation and to seek for more support, advice, wisdom and other initiatives that will guide us all through the pre and post May 15 local government election,” Settle said.
Speaking on preparation towards the coming council election, Settle maintained that the visits to all leaders in Oluyole was part of the efforts to step up readiness for the May 15 local government poll.
“This is part of our preparations because we believe that once our house is united and in order, victory at the poll is certain.
“They are doing wonderfully well at the party level in term of preparation, and as candidates, we are embarking on wide consultations, visitations, and other things that needed to be done.
In his remark, Engr Akeem Olatunji thanked Olaide Settle and his team for the visit and harped on unity of the party especially among all the party leaders in Oluyole local government.
He commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s style of leadership and governance noting that youths in politics have never had such opportunity to rise politically at the mainstream politics in the state urging his guests to justify the trust reposed in them by the Governor.
“Well, this visit means a lot to me because the party’s representatives in the coming local government election are the ones that are here.
“We have only 10 wards in Oluyole and all of them are here led by the Chairmanship candidate, Hon Olaide Settle and his vice.
“This sort of visit will further foster harmony and unity within our party especially in our local government and I believe as one the leaders, that we must always live by examples.
“We can not afford to allow politics divide us within the party and we can not leave everything to Governor Seyi Makinde who already has the entire state as a responsibility on his shoulders which is why we as leaders must always endeavor to reduce the workload of the Governor especially at the grassroots level.
“I believe of everybody is doing that at his or her local government area, then the governor will have less issues to worry about at the local government level.
“I am very pleased with Olaide Settle’s sterling performance in the capacity of a caretaker chairman, it gives us the ray of hope that the future is indeed brighter with youths like Hon Settle, and it further affirms that Oluyole made the right choice by electing him as the party’s flagbearer in Oluyole local government for the May 15 council election.
“I am a team player and as such we must encourage everyone to work as a team towards a collective goal because when we work as a team, there won’t be any rancor
“Oluyole is secured for PDP come any election because we are diligently following the path of collectivism, opened door politics, and more importantly, politics without bitterness, that is why after all said and done, we in Oluyole remain one indivisible political family,” Olatunji said.
