The Oyo State House of Assembly House Committee Chairman on Commerce and Cooperatives, Honourable Akintunde Olajide, has commended the state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for the relief support of N50 million given to victims of Araromi market, Agodi Gate in Ibadan.

The lawmaker who gave the commendation in a statement made available to sunrisebulletin on Thursday 29th of April, explained that Governor Makinde remains the “Mr and Talk and Do” of Oyo state ever.

Honourable Akintund, representing Lagelu State Constituency in the 9th Assembly stressed that Governor Makinde’s words alone could be taken to the bank as a surety stressing that very few leaders in the entire country has such unique human characteristics.

The lawmaker who also doubles as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Whip of the 9th Assembly maintained that as the Chairman, House Committee on Commerce and Cooperatives, there have been several calls from different quarters made to him inquiring on what the government was going to give as support to victims of the market.

Sunrisebulletin earlier in the month reported that an early morning fire, on Saturday, razed the popular auto spare parts market at Agodi-Gate, Ibadan.

According to an eyewitness, the fire started from the tyre section before spreading to other parts of the market, especially the car engine section and other shops, with goods worth millions destroyed.

Honourable Akintunde popularly called AKT, had during a live radio program last week in Ibadan, which was monitored by sunrisebulletin, explained that the Committee on Commerce and Cooperatives would have been to the market in its official capacity but the industrial action currently ongoing by parliamentary staffs nationwide has impeded such official oversight function.

“I want to on behalf of the entire House Committee on Commerce and Cooperatives, thank and commend Governor Seyi Makinde for being who he is, a leader with an inestimable heart of love and compassion.

“The Governor is the number PDP member in Oyo state and whatever he says or do will also have vast implications on the image of our great party, therefore, we feel very proud and privileged to have him with us in our own time for all the great and wonderful works he is doing.

“During the governor’s visit to the market when the inferno just happened, he assured the victims and market leaders of state government’s commitment towards providing support that will help the market bounce back, and he has fulfilled his words therefore, our assertion that Governor Seyi Makinde is our ‘Mr Talk and Do Governor’ is justified.

“Considering the importance of the market to the internally generated revenue base of Oyo state and true to the words of Governor Seyi Makinde, a N50 million cheque was presented to the victims yesterday, and we in the house committee on commerce and cooperatives feel very happy and optimistic that the funds will further help accelerate the process of restoring the market back sooner than later,” the statement reads in part.

The lawmaker however, maintained that the state House of Assembly will continue to provide necessary legislative support that will help the state government achieve its economic agenda.
