The Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, on Friday (yesterday) hosted Muslim Leaders and faithfuls in the state to an Iftar (breaking of Ramadan fasting) at the Agodi Government House.
The Governor while addressing the Muslim community on Friday 30th of April at the State Government House in Ibadan, urged residents in the state to shun all forms of religious intolerance adding that Oyo state in Nigeria is known for peace, love, and tranquility among its residents regardless of their religious inclination.
He maintained that Anybody or group coming from another state to stoke religious disharmony in Oyo state should go elsewhere because Oyo state is known for peace, love and harmonious coexistence among all faiths and would not tolerate such act from any individual or group.
“Anyone coming from another state to stoke religious disharmony in Oyo state should go elsewhere because Oyo state is known for love and peaceful coexistence among all residents in the state. We will not allow anyone or group come here and stoke religious disharmony,” Makinde said.
The Governor charged Nigerians to continue to pray for Nigeria and show love to one another especially to the needy in the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking on expectations of party members on the newly inaugurated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in the South West Zone, Governor Makinde affirmed faith in the Ambassador Taofeeq Arapaja led executives and assured of Oyo state maximum support and cooperation.
Governor Makinde however, enjoined religious leaders of all faiths to use their positions to propagate love and religious harmony noting that God is the creator of all human beings to whom all supplications are made.
Present at the Iftar are the Deputy Governor, Engr Remi Olaniyan, former governor of Oyo state Chief Rashidi Ladoja represented by his wife Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Daud Akinola Makanjuola, Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere.
Others are Sheik Qozeem Akilapa, members of Oyo State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, members of the state Executive Council, top government functionaries, representatives of various trade and professional Associations as well as student union leaders from across all tertiary institutions in Oyo state.
